Review: 2025 Ford F-150

2025 Ford F-150 Review: Canada’s Best-Selling Truck Returns Stronger Than Ever

The Ford F-150 has been Canada’s bestselling pickup truck for decades, and the 2025 model year proves exactly why this iconic workhorse continues to dominate the market. Actually, the F-150 has been Canada’s best-selling vehicle period, and not only that – it has a huge margin over the second place Toyota RAV4.

With a starting MSRP of approximately $49,955 (good luck finding that F-150 though) and topping out around $106,975 for premium trims, the F-150 offers an unprecedented range of configurations to suit every budget and need. Whether you’re a contractor hauling materials to job sites, an outdoor enthusiast towing recreational equipment, or simply seeking a capable daily driver with truck versatility, the 2025 F-150 delivers on every front.

Exterior

The 2025 F-150 maintains Ford’s signature bold truck styling while incorporating subtle refinements that enhance both aesthetics and functionality. The front fascia features a commanding grille design that varies across trim levels, from the utilitarian chrome surround on base XL models to the aggressive blacked-out treatment on the Tremor and Raptor variants.

LED headlamps are standard across most trims, with higher-end Lariat and above models featuring LED projector headlamps with dynamic bending technology that pivots the light beam into corners for improved visibility. The sculpted hood lines and muscular fender flares give the F-150 an imposing road presence that clearly communicates capability.

Xlt towing

Bed lengths are available in multiple configurations including 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot options depending on cab style selection. The tailgate incorporates thoughtful features like an integrated ruler, bottle openers, and on upper trims, the innovative Pro-Access tailgate that includes a bed utility package with fold-out steps and handholds for easier bed access.

Running boards vary by trim level, with the King Ranch and Platinum models featuring power-deployable running boards that automatically extend when doors open and retract when closed for improved ground clearance and a cleaner side profile. The Raptor features unique off-road style running boards designed to withstand serious trail abuse.

Wheel options range from practical 17-inch steel wheels on base models to aggressive 18-inch gloss black wheels on the STX and massive all-terrain wrapped wheels on the Tremor and Raptor. The F-150’s aerodynamic profile includes an active grille shutter system that closes at highway speeds to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency.

Interior/Tech/Convenience

Step inside the 2025 F-150 and you’ll find an interior that balances work-ready durability with genuine comfort and cutting-edge technology. Even base XL models feature a surprisingly well-appointed cabin with a 12-inch capacitive touchscreen running Ford’s SYNC 4 infotainment system with enhanced voice recognition.

Dash wide

The STX trim adds unique sport cloth bucket seats and a 12-inch productivity screen that provides additional digital real estate for monitoring vehicle information and towing metrics. Climate controls, audio settings, and navigation all flow intuitively through the touchscreen interface, though Ford wisely retains physical volume and tuning knobs for easier operation while driving.

XLT models introduce available leather-trimmed seating surfaces and heated front seats, while the Lariat elevates luxury with heated and ventilated ActiveX seating surfaces that provide genuine comfort during long highway drives or extended workdays. The multicontour front seats on King Ranch and Platinum trims feature adjustable lumbar and bolstering for exceptional support.

Climate controls

The available twin-panel moonroof on King Ranch and above floods the cabin with natural light.

Technology features include the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assistance systems standard across all trims, featuring automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane keeping assist. Available Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel on over 200,000 kilometers of pre-mapped North American highways, with the system using cameras and radar to monitor the road and driver attention.

Upper trims can be equipped with Bang & Olufsen premium audio systems that deliver concert-quality sound through strategically placed speakers. The available head-up display projects vital driving information onto the windshield directly in the driver’s line of sight. FordPass connectivity with a 5G LTE modem enables remote start, lock/unlock, vehicle locating, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability for up to 10 devices.

Storage

Storage solutions abound throughout the cabin. The center console is massive and can accommodate a laptop, with clever organizational bins and cupholders. Upper glove boxes, door pockets, and rear underseat storage ensure gear stays organized.

Rear Seats

The 2025 F-150’s rear seating accommodations vary significantly depending on cab configuration, with the SuperCrew offering genuinely impressive passenger space that rivals many SUVs. In SuperCrew models, rear seat passengers enjoy over 43 inches of legroom, providing ample space even for taller adults to stretch out comfortably on long journeys. The rear bench seats up to three passengers, though realistically two adults will be most comfortable with the center position reserved for shorter trips or smaller passengers.

Rear seat comfort has been thoughtfully engineered with supportive cushioning and appropriate seat back angles that prevent the upright, uncomfortable positioning common in competitor trucks. The rear seatbacks recline on upper trim levels, allowing passengers to find their optimal relaxation angle during highway cruising. Heated rear seats are available on Lariat and above trims, extending comfort to rear passengers during Canadian winters.

Rear seats

Convenience features abound in the rear seating area. Dual USB charging ports keep devices powered, while rear climate vents ensure consistent temperature control. Door pockets provide storage for bottles and personal items, and the rear seats feature a 60/40 split-folding design that allows combining passenger and cargo carrying when needed. The seat bottoms flip up to reveal large, weatherproof under-seat storage compartments perfect for securing valuable tools, recovery gear, or personal belongings out of sight.

SuperCab models offer a smaller rear seating area accessed through rear-hinged doors, suitable for occasional passengers or child seats but less accommodating for regular adult use. The trade-off provides a longer bed length for buyers prioritizing cargo capacity over passenger space. Rear window defroster and thoughtful grab handles aid passenger ingress and egress across all cab configurations.

Under the Hood

The 2025 F-150’s engine lineup offers impressive variety, ensuring buyers can select the perfect balance of power, capability, and efficiency for their specific needs. The base 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 produces 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, providing surprisingly robust performance for a entry-level engine while delivering respectable fuel economy.

The workhorse 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine generates 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, offering the traditional V8 rumble many truck enthusiasts prefer along with proven reliability. This engine is particularly popular with buyers who value simplicity and durability.

For maximum capability, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with twin turbochargers produces 400 horsepower and an impressive 500 lb-ft of torque, making it the ideal choice for frequent towing. This is the engine required to achieve the F-150’s maximum 13,500-pound towing capacity.

Lariat grille

The innovative 3.5-liter PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 combines a twin-turbo V6 with electric motor assist to generate 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque while significantly improving fuel economy. The hybrid system also enables the impressive Pro Power Onboard generator capability with up to 7.2 kW of exportable power, essentially transforming the F-150 into a mobile generator capable of powering tools, equipment, or even providing emergency home backup power.

The performance-focused Raptor deploys a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 high-output engine producing 450 horsepower, while the range-topping Raptor R features a thunderous 5.2-liter supercharged V8 generating an extraordinary 720 horsepower for ultimate off-road and straight-line performance.

All engines pair with Ford’s smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission that intelligently selects optimal gears for efficiency, performance, or towing. Selectable drive modes adjust transmission shift points, throttle response, and on 4×4 models, torque distribution between front and rear axles.

Trim Levels and Features

With so many different possibilities available, I felt I needed to add a new section laying out the basic categories of F-150.

The 2025 F-150 lineup begins with the XL work truck, which despite its budget positioning includes impressive standard equipment like the 12-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen, Ford Co-Pilot360 safety technology, class IV trailer hitch, and available 136-liter extended range fuel tank. The XL provides exceptional value for commercial buyers and budget-conscious consumers.

Lariat rear fender

The STX adds visual appeal with 18-inch gloss black wheels, unique sport cloth bucket seats, and the available STX FX4 off-road package that includes off-road tuned shocks, skid plates, and all-terrain tires. The 12-inch productivity screen becomes standard, along with selectable drive modes.

XLT represents the volume seller in the F-150 lineup, balancing affordability with desirable comfort and convenience features. Available options include the PowerBoost hybrid powertrain, Black Appearance Package, BlueCruise hands-free driving, Pro Trailer Backup Assist for simplified reversing with trailers, and 360-degree camera systems.

The Tremor off-road package transforms the F-150 into a serious trail machine with 33-inch all-terrain tires, increased ride height improving approach and departure angles, Trail Control with Trail 1-Pedal Drive that automatically modulates throttle and braking for controlled off-road crawling, and available Torsen limited-slip front differential. The modular front bumper can be removed for improved approach angles on challenging terrain.

Lariat introduces genuine luxury with leather-trimmed seating, LED projector headlamps with dynamic bending, available Bang & Olufsen audio, the innovative Pro-Access tailgate, and available head-up display. BlueCruise hands-free highway driving comes standard on Lariat and above.

King Ranch pays homage to the legendary Texas ranch with unique exterior bronze accent paint, premium multicontour leather bucket seats, twin-panel moonroof, power deployable running boards, and available 7.2kW Pro Power Onboard generator capability.

Platinum represents near-luxury territory with 20-inch painted gloss black wheels, ultra-premium materials throughout the cabin, advanced technology features, and refined styling details. The available Platinum Plus package adds even more exclusive features.

Raptor main pic

The Raptor stands alone as a purpose-built off-road performance machine with heavy-duty skid plates, 4×4 with hi-lock transfer case, off-road running boards, unique Raptor exterior graphics, and specially tuned FOX suspension. The Raptor R variant adds the supercharged V8 for unmatched performance.

The Drive

Despite its substantial size, the 2025 F-150 delivers surprisingly refined driving dynamics that make it genuinely pleasant for daily commuting while retaining the capability truck buyers demand. The fully boxed high-strength steel frame provides exceptional rigidity and durability, while the independent front suspension and solid rear axle deliver a balanced ride quality.

Around town, the F-150 feels remarkably maneuverable for a full-size truck. Electric power-assisted steering provides good feedback and makes parking easier than expected. Visibility is excellent thanks to large mirrors and available 360-degree camera systems that display birds-eye and split-view angles to navigate tight spaces.

Tremor splash

On the highway, the F-150 cruises confidently with minimal wind noise thanks to acoustic windshield glass and strategically placed sound dampening materials. The 10-speed automatic transmission keeps engine speeds low at cruising velocities, reducing noise and improving fuel economy. Active grille shutters close at speed to reduce aerodynamic drag.

When equipped with the available adaptive cruise control and lane centering assist, highway driving becomes genuinely relaxing. BlueCruise hands-free driving technology takes this further on compatible roads, allowing drivers to remove their hands from the wheel while the system monitors traffic and maintains lane position.

Off-road, models equipped with the Tremor package or Raptor variants showcase impressive capability. The Tremor’s Trail Control system functions like cruise control for off-roading, automatically managing throttle and individual wheel braking to maintain consistent low-speed progress over obstacles. Trail Turn Assist tightens the turning radius by applying rear inside brake to pivot the truck through tight switchbacks.

The Raptor takes off-road performance to another level entirely with long-travel FOX internal bypass shocks, massive suspension travel, and aggressive all-terrain tires that devour rough terrain with shocking composure. The high-output EcoBoost engine delivers abundant power for climbing steep grades or charging through soft sand.

Truck Stuff – Towing and Payload Capacity

The 2025 F-150’s maximum towing capacity reaches an impressive 13,500 pounds when properly equipped with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, 4×4 drivetrain, SuperCrew cab configuration, and 6.5-foot bed. This best-in-class capability allows the F-150 to confidently handle large travel trailers, car haulers, and equipment trailers that would overwhelm lesser trucks.

Payload capacity maxes out at 2,440 pounds on properly equipped Regular Cab 2WD models with the 8-foot bed, making the F-150 an exceptional choice for contractors hauling building materials, landscapers carrying equipment and debris, or anyone needing serious cargo capacity in the bed.

Ford’s suite of towing technologies makes managing trailers significantly easier. Pro Trailer Backup Assist uses a rotary knob on the dashboard to steer the trailer during reversing maneuvers, eliminating the confusion and frustration typical of backing up with trailers. The system displays trajectory guidance lines on the rearview camera showing exactly where the trailer will travel.

Tremor tailgate

Pro Trailer Hitch Assist uses cameras to display alignment guides that simplify hitching trailers without requiring a spotter. Onboard Scales technology uses sensors to calculate payload weight and display it on the instrument cluster, preventing overloading. Smart Trailer Tow Connector automatically detects trailer lighting and applies appropriate brake controller settings.

The available integrated trailer brake controller provides smooth, progressive braking when towing. Trailer Sway Control automatically applies individual brakes and reduces engine power if it detects trailer sway beginning, helping maintain control. The tow/haul drive mode adjusts transmission shift patterns and throttle response specifically for towing applications.

Multiple exterior cameras including trailer-specific views help monitor the trailer and surrounding traffic while towing. The available 360-degree camera system provides invaluable assistance when maneuvering in tight spaces with a trailer attached. Blind spot monitoring with trailer coverage extends monitoring zones to account for trailer width.

The Verdict

WAF (Wife Approval Factor) is surprisingly high. Anyone who knows my girls knows she likes smaller cars – hatchbacks and wagons. But when it comes to trucks, although she dislikes the size and what that means in terms of parking, etc., she has to admit she finds the F-150 easier to drive than she would have thought. She also gives it full marks for the luxurious surroundings in the upper trims, and the comfortable and quiet ride.
